Can I get an explanation of the scoring in the Match Play?

What does "2 up" and "1 up" mean? and "AS"?

If someone is 1 up does that mean he has 1 stroke less?

Is AS mean "All Square"?

1 up means that they are winning. If they are 2up then they have won 2 more holes then the other golfer. AS means all square or they are tied.

it is not stroke play...... they play hole by hole. thus a player can concede a hole and only lose that hole and it has no effect on his overall game since they do not have an overall score. This allows the players to try anything because it willnot penalize them in later holes.

towards the end if you see a player win you will see two things either a score like :

Woods: 5 with 3 ..................... this means he won 5 holes and there are only three left to play so he wins because there is no way hos opponent can come back.

or

Woods: 2 up................. if they go the entire round you will just see this.
